After visiting Shanghai, we flew to the north-eastern part of China to an industrial city named Shenyang. Shenyang is about a 2.5 hour drive from North Korea. I'm really glad I got to see more than just the bustling city of Shanghai. Shenyang is quite a bit smaller, though still very large, and has a different atmosphere. And...WAL-MART! Yay!
Our days here were very full...we had guides for everything. They took us sightseeing, out to eat, herded us from meeting to meeting, etc. We dined with one government official after another. I'm sooo glad I knew how to use chopsticks prior to this trip! I would have been struggling!
China is definitely different than Taiwan. The people have completely different attitudes/mentalities. In China, I found many of the people to come across as "rude". However, I think that is just because of their aggressiveness. It was a culture enlightening trip - that is for sure!
On the 3rd day or so, the government representatives sent me over their intern to be my translator. Orange and I hit it off! She made the trip a lot more fun for this American chick who doesn't understand a word of Mandarin.
Wal-mart! Right beside our hotel too!!
