Dear Friend,
Can you envision a country where generations live and work in a dump? Where Mayan religions still have a powerful influence? Where extreme poverty describes 70% of the population?
Where there are 25,000 street children?
I had the privilege of coming face to face with these children in 2008 when I first traveled to Guatemala as a short-term associate in missions. Since that time, my passion and burden for orphan care has only grown. After returning to the United States, I have worked at New Beginnings Adoption and Family Services, further developed my Spanish language skills, and traveled back to Guatemala whenever funds and time would allow. The desire to return to Guatemala on a more permanent basis has also grown, along with the feeling that the Lord was leading me to work more directly with the fatherless and orphaned. Through a series of events that can only be described as obvious open doors, God has made it possible for me to return to Guatemala for a year where I will support the established missionary work that exists.
The two main projects I will be working on will be with the orphanage and the Bible school.
The church in Guatemala established an orphanage called “House of Restoration” in 2006. Since then, the home has provided housing, schooling, and a safe, Godly environment to over 50 children. Currently, the orphanage is in the process of raising funds to expand and relocate. I am excited to join them at this pivotal time of expansion.
The church in Guatemala also has a very active Bible school that functions to teach and equip new pastors to start churches throughout the country. They currently have about 400 students enrolled. The main Bible school campus is located in Guatemala City and serves as a hub for the work in Guatemala. I will serve the Bible school campus in a supportive and administrative role. The graduates from this Bible school have started numerous works throughout the country of Guatemala. I am honored to have a small part in developing the future pastors and ministers.
I won’t pretend that 25,000 orphans and a nation of 15 million souls do not sound overwhelming to me, but I know that God has a plan for each orphan and for every soul. I am thrilled that God has chosen me to be a part of His work in Guatemala.
I ask that you prayerfully consider partnering with me in this mission. Please pray for me now and during my time in Guatemala. Please also consider partnering with me as a financial supporter on a monthly or one-time basis. I need to raise a total of $13,000 by May 15. All contributions are tax deductible.
Thank you for joining with me in this mission.
Amber Corey
